GLS Spain begins construction of its new multi-storey Barcelona South hub in collaboration with Goodman
Officials from Barcelona City Council, alongside representatives from GLS Spain and Goodman, visit the development site of the new logistics hub, a state-of-the-art facility which will be operational in 2026

Barcelona, December 10th 2025 – Today, GLS Spain hosted an official visit to the development site of its new multi-storey Barcelona South logistics centre, in Goodman’s Barcelona City Hub. Located in the Zona Franca, this is the company’s first multi-storey asset in Europe, developed in collaboration with Goodman, and will strengthen last‑mile distribution across the metropolitan area and the national and international connectivity of the GLS network.
The event was attended by Jordi Valls, 4th Deputy Mayor from Barcelona City Council; and, representing the companies, Roberto Martinez, CEO and Country Manager from GLS Spain, and Philippe Van der Beken, Managing Director, Goodman Continental Europe. Over the course of the day, attendees undertook a technical tour of the project in development, during which the GLS and Goodman teams outlined construction progress, technological solutions, and the sustainability measures integrated into the project.
The visit enabled institutional representatives to see first-hand the scale of the facility and the impact it will have on urban parcel distribution, operational efficiency, and the logistics competitiveness of Barcelona and its surrounding region.

An efficient, sustainable multi-storey hub in a strategic location

Barcelona South is being developed on a 17,500 m² brownfield site and will comprise 20,298 m² of built area. The building, conceived as a cross‑dock facility for parcel distribution, provides 13,189 m² across three levels (ground floor 7,074 m², mezzanine 528 m² and first floor 5,587 m²), plus 1,665 m² of modern, functional office space. Its location in the Zona Franca, 8.6 km from the airport and close to the Port of Barcelona, offers direct connectivity to key maritime, air, and road hubs, reducing transit times and the carbon footprint per shipment.
The project targets BREEAM Excellent certification and integrates low‑carbon materials, life cycle assessment and waste valorisation. It will incorporate 350–400 KWp of rooftop solar PV and electric charging stations for last‑mile fleets, alongside a design that prioritises team safety and wellbeing. Commissioning is planned for 2026, with a phased rollout to ensure service continuity.
For the build, Goodman has brought its expertise in industrial land regeneration and as a pioneer in the construction and management of multi‑storey facilities to’ Barcelona and in the development of GLS’s main KM0 hub in Madrid.

Barcelona, the gateway to and from Europe for the GLS network
The new hub will centralise a core part of GLS’s last‑mile distribution across the metropolitan area, as well as a large share of outbound volumes from its network of partners and agencies in the province, optimising national and international distribution flows. In combination with the Barcelona North centre (Santa Perpètua de Mogoda), Barcelona will consolidate its position as the gateway to and from Europe for Iberia’s import and export freight, strengthening interconnectivity with other strategic GLS hubs and improving transit times.
