Global property group Goodman is developing a 31,600 sqm logistics centre for Lesara in Erfurt freight village in Germany. Lesara is a rapidly growing online shop for fashion and lifestyle products. The Berlin-based company has signed a ten year lease to enable it to consolidate its logistics network and facilitate further growth throughout Europe. The construction began at the beginning of October with the handover planned for 2018.
Successful Berlin startup Lesara offers on-trend fashion and lifestyle products through its own online shop. Founded in Berlin in 2013 Lesara now offers a range of over 100,000 items in 24 European countries. The concept has already attracted attention, with Lesara featured as “Europe’s fastest growing tech startup” in 2016 by The Next Webas. Following the success of its European business, in November 2015 Lesara expanded into Asia opening an office in South China’s business metropolis of Guangzhou. With the new property in Erfurt, Lesara is consolidating its logistics network and laying the foundation for further expansion in Europe. The new property in Erfurt will become the company’s central European warehouse.
“In Goodman we have found a partner that has a wealth of experience in the development of logistics centres for e-commerce and that offers us a modern solution in an up-and-coming logistics location. With the new site, we are establishing our own independent logistics network and improving the quality and efficiency of our logistics,” explains Lesara founder Roman Kirsch.
Green property in the heart of Germany
Goodman is placing great emphasis on sustainability in the new development. The new logistics centre will be fully equipped with LED lighting which provides; energy efficiency and reduces consumption costs, high-quality insulation of the façade and roof and the use of efficient building heating to help the ecobalance, including with respect to CO2 emissions. As a result of these measures, the facility is expected to receive a gold certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) after completion.
The logistics centre, located in Erfurt freight village (GVZ), is approximately 10 km east of Erfurt city centre. Based on its central position in the middle of Germany and Europe, Goodman and the Berlin e-commerce provider rated the location of Erfurt as the optimal solution for Lesara’s needs. With its excellent connections to the national and transnational transport network via the A4 and A71 motorways, the Thuringian state capital guarantees Lesara short distances to German and European customers. Moreover, Erfurt airport is under 20 kilometres away. Goodman has already developed approx. 130,000 sqm of logistics space in the location.
“Because of its location and transport connections, Erfurt is a prime location for European logistics. Furthermore, the region offers cost effective space with close proximity to a large pool of qualified workers, both of which are in short supply in Germany” says Christof Prange, Head of Business Development at Goodman, Germany.
