After two sleepy decades, Madrid witnesses the rebirth of an abandoned industrial site

After the demolition of the old factory we recycled 75,000 cubic meters of material - the equivalent of more than 30 olympic-sized swimming pools - and reused this material during the building phase.

A sustainable approach targeting a double BREEAM certification

The integrated project made of two buildings - each with ten independent yet flexible units - incorporates a wide range of sustainable features. The project targets to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” status and a BREEAM urbanisation certification for its integration in the environment, the first project to receive such a certification in the Madrid area.

  • BREEAM Excellent
  • BREEAM Urbanisation Certification
  • PV solar installations
  • Efficient lighting
  • Energy smart metering system
  • Sustainable drainage system
  • EV charging stations
Quick fact

Getafe is historically linked to the aeronautical industry, now home of Airbus’ main production site in Spain. Redeveloped in close cooperation with the local town council, Getafe Terminal is a new logistics hub in the southern area of Madrid.

Strong local integration

With its architecture inspired by a modern airport, in homage to the significant aviation industry in Getafe, the new logistics park is perfectly integrated in its environment. A large green corridor of 24,000 sqm comes alongside the property offering a recreational area for the employees and the neighbourhood. Among other improvements, a pedestrian bridge welcoming soft mobility (8 m. x 300 m. long) is being created to facilitate access and connect the eastern side of the industrial area to the nearest railway station.

500 new jobs will be created thanks to this new development which is 10x more than previously used on the site. On top of easier access to public transport and the green areas surrounding the property, the new employees will be able to enjoy an integrated restaurant, as well as two padel courts.
