ZUFALL logistics group expands to support its customers

Wednesday, 17 July 2019

Goodman's 52,000 sqm logistics property in the Lutterberg industrial estate near Kassel has been completely pre-leased three months prior to development completion. Friedrich ZUFALL GmbH & Co. KG has signed a lease agreement for the remaining 8,800 sqm.

ZUFALL is a global company with more than 2,000 employees in ten locations in Germany. Altogether the company manages around 400,000 sqm of logistics space while transporting around 4.6 million consignments annually. The range of services includes truck transports, air freight, sea freight and express services as well as customs services and complex contract logistics.

The company is leasing additional logistics space from Goodman in order to expand its operations in Kassel. ZUFALL managing director Juergen Wolpert explains: "With this step, we expand our capacities for our customers so that we can continue to optimally support them in their growth in the future. From here, we can feed all shipments quickly and easily into our high-performance transport network.”

Christof Prange, Head of Business Development at Goodman Germany, explains: "The attractiveness of this location, along with the quality of our building has meant that customer demand has been high and we have been able to fully lease the property prior to completion.  We believe our successful cooperation with ZUFALL in developing a property previously in the Michelsrombach region, also played a key role in this. Since we forecast that this region will continue to attract customers and require a large amount of logistics space, we are looking to undertake more projects around Kassel in the future."

Thanks to its central location within Germany, the region around Kassel is a popular location for the logistics industry. The A7 motorway connects Lutterberg as a district of Staufenberg with Göttingen and Kassel – about 16 km away. All important economic centres can be reached within a few hours via the A44 and A49 motorways.

Sustainability in focus

Goodman's long-standing project partner LIST Bau Nordhorn has built the logistics centre as a turnkey general contractor. Andreas Brockhaus, Managing Director of LIST Bau Nordhorn, gives an insight regarding the new building‘s sustainability focus: "When constructing the roof of this logistics property, we have relied on glulam, a type of wood from sustainable sources, as a building material because it has, among other things, a good CO2 balance. Each cubic metre of glulam binds about one tonne of CO2. In Lutterberg, the sustainable roof structure has a CO2 reduction of around 1,940 tonnes - equivalent to the emissions of a mid-range diesel car over a distance of around 13 million kilometres."

Goodman developed the property on behalf of a logistics fund managed by Nuveen Real Estate.
